GoCardless confirmed as government-approved Open Banking supplier

By Ellie Duncan | 13 March 2024

Bank payment company GoCardless has joined Crown Commercial Service’s Open Banking Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS).

GoCardless joins Ecospend, Ordo and Moneyhub which have all been accepted onto the new system as suppliers.

By being named as a supplier, GoCardless will be eligible to bid for account information services and payment initiation services ‘Request for Tenders’ issued by any UK public sector body that uses the DPS, including local authorities, education institutions, not-for-profit and charitable organisations.

At the start of the year, GoCardless became the exclusive Open Banking payment provider of online donation platform JustGiving, which is using its ‘Instant Bank Pay’ feature to collect instant, one-off gifts, and its direct debit capabilities for recurring donations.

Pat Phelan, managing director of UK&I and chief customer officer at GoCardless, said: “GoCardless and Open Banking go hand-in-hand. From taking the first VRP transaction in 2018, to advocating for our customers in industry and regulatory working groups today, we’ve always been trailblazers in this space.

“Joining the first group of Open Banking providers on the DPS is a natural next step.”

Phelan added: “We’re excited for the opportunity to bring the benefits of Open Banking to millions of businesses and consumers using government services, and to continue being the provider of choice in the charity sector.”

Crown Commercial Service has estimated that the DPS will generate a sales pipeline worth up to £800 million over the next eight years, according to GoCardless.

In February, HM Revenue & Customs confirmed it will make use of the new DPS, as it goes through the process of re-tendering its Open Banking services contract.
